There was a song in my “crate” earlier today that I decided not to play – because it’s the saddest song I’ve ever heard. It literally makes 40 year old male metal heads cry at the concert – including me.
It’s the story of loss. It’s the story of trying to let go but never wanting to let go. The name of the song is “Routine”. It’s based on the actions a mother might take after losing her children and husband in a tragedy. She tries to keep the “routine” to forget the tragedy. She fights to pretend that things are still normal and within her control.
The combination of the music, the scenes in the video and pain in the singer’s voice all create a crescendo of emotions.
“Don’t ever let go, try to let go”
To any parent who has lost their child, I can’t imagine the pain you must have felt and continue to feel.
